š From One Mum to Another...
A few years ago, 17 to be exact, I became a new mum to my beautiful daughter, Lola Bella Butterfly.
Little did I know that one day she'd become my partner in our Mel in a Box family business, or that those early years would inspire an idea I'd carry with me for nearly two decades.
Becoming Lola's mum was the most wonderful chapter of my life.
For the first time in years, life slowed down. Instead of sales meetings, deadlines and busy workdays, my days became filled with baby cuddles, Mothers' Group catch-ups, coffee dates and pram walks.
Like so many new mums, I was learning something new every single day.
Those weekly Mothers' Group catch-ups became so much more than coffee with friends.
They kept us sane.
They reminded us we weren't alone.
They gave us a safe place to ask questions, celebrate milestones, laugh, cry and reassure one another that we were doing this whole motherhood thing okay.
š Why I Believe Children Deserve a Safer Digital Childhood
š± The Beginning of a New Digital World
It was 2009, and the world was changing.
Smartphones were becoming part of everyday life, and suddenly we all had access to a whole new world through the little screens in our hands.
Like many of the mums in my Mothers' Group, I didn't think twice about downloading simple children's apps to keep our little ones entertained while we enjoyed a much-needed coffee or finished a conversation.
I used a handful of basic apps with Lola on repeat.
We counted together.
We read together.
We explored little educational games together.
Before long, she was confidently navigating them herself for short periods of time, giving me those precious few moments every parent understands.
As both a mum and an Early Childhood Educator, I could already see the incredible potential technology had to support children's learning.
But I also saw something missing.
I couldn't find one app that brought together everything I believed young children needed...
Storytelling.

That little thought stayed with me for years.

Seventeen years ago, I was simply a new mum searching for something safe, magical and educational for my little girl.
Today, that little girl is 17 years old and my partner in our Mel in a Box family business.
Watching Lola grow from the curious little girl who inspired this dream into the incredible young woman she is today has been one of the greatest privileges of my life.
Seeing her now reminds me just how quickly childhood passes.
The little moments that feel ordinary at the time. The bedtime stories, the games, the imaginative adventures, the cuddles on the couch, the coffee catch-ups with other mums become the memories we treasure most.
That's why I believe childhood should never be rushed.
It should be filled with stories that spark imagination, moments that encourage creativity and experiences that help children build confidence, curiosity and joy.

Whether we're creating magical birthday parties or digital experiences, our mission has always been the same:
